Palm trees
RPWPalm cultivation is of great economic religious and socio-cultural significance for the North Africa and Middle East countries and date palm is probably the most ancient cultivated tree in the world. In south European countries, palm trees are cultivated mainly for ornamental purpose and are of great importance for the tourist industry. Palms are threatened by several Coleoptera and Lepidoptera insect pests of these pests in the Mediterranean basin the red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus), originated from southern Asia and Melanesia, has been recognized as the number one enemy for palm trees world-wide.

Treatment
RPW catchesFor the prevention and protection of palm trees the use of pheromone traps (to capture adult RPWs) in combination with entomopathogenic nematodes (to kill larvae) are advised.

Pine Recessionary Moth
thaupiPPM is a nocturnal moth of the Thaumetopoeidae family. It is considered the main defoliator for pine forests in the Mediterranean basin. In addition their larvae are covered by urticating hair that irritate the skin and mucus membranes, often leading to strong allergic reactions.

Mating disruption
It is the sexual disorientation of males. This is achieved through saturation of the air with the species’ sex pheromone. This way males cannot locate females. This method is currently in use against many lepidopteran species and constitutes a very effective and ecological solution.
